Spring has Sprung and Gone

Now that summer is here, I thought I’d put together a little spring 2010 review. In the upper midwest, after a hard winter, there is nothing like spring to bring about great cheer. Warmer weather, the rain and storms, everything but winter. This year has been quite a spring in the Chicago area. Third warmest spring on record and rain like we live in Florida.
March

The neighborhood hawk checking things out.

The obligatory kite in tree
April
Coyotes were big news in Wheaton, IL this spring. This is one that was in the backyard behind our house.

Lazing in the back yard.

Saw me and decided to move on. This was late in the evening as the sun was going down, so a lot of contrast. He was pretty shaggy looking. My neighbor was afraid for his kids. I really don’t have anything to say to that.

Flowering trees. Where does one start and the other end?
Colin’s and my adventure to Starved Rock State Park
My buddy Colin and I took a Friday afternoon off to shoot Starved Rock State Park. It was a very warm April afternoon.

One of many wild flowers at the park

Frogs keeping cool

One of the waterfalls

Cool knurled log of a fallen tree

One of the many rock valleys. Kind of hard to believe you’re in Illinois.

A smaller waterfall.
May
Here come the rains and mushrooms...

And of course, flowers

These smell like vanilla

Snow in Summer

Butterfly on lilac bush

Lilac up close

Lily of the Valley

Not sure the name, but a bush in our backyard

This is on a vine that I’m surprised makes it out of winter

From the onion family

I love these old fashioned Bleeding Hearts. So delicate and native I think.
June
Not summer yet officially

New lilly perennial for us this year

Another new perennial

And one more we added to our perennial flower garden.

And here’s one we added 11 years ago. Lookin’ good.
All in all, probably the nicest spring weather wise I can remember for a long time. Now for Summer!
