A Lease on Life

Another turning point, a fork stuck in the road
Time grabs you by the wrist, directs you where to go
So make the best of this test and don't ask why
It's not a question, but a lesson learned in time

A Creating Space Article
This article is part of a series on creating space.  Inviting pause between assumption and metaphysical reality.
.

unknown When life is seen through the lens of “I”, the egoic sense, there’s an automatic assumption of ownership:
My body. My car. My life.

But if you look more closely, critically, you may find there’s no true ownership at all.

Take your body, for instance. It was created in your mother’s womb. It’s sustained by food from the earth. It breathes air it didn’t invent. Its processes run mostly outside your conscious control.

According to Neil deGrasse Tyson, your body contains about 37 trillion human cells, but it’s also home to around 100 trillion bacteria. So, whose body is it really? Yours? The bacteria?

Did you decide to blink your eyes just now? Who sneezed, you, or the body?
We assume ownership. But what does that even mean?

Who owns your car? Because some numbers moved from one bank account to another? Because you received a certificate with your name on it? Those are just agreements. Social constructs. The car exists, that’s all.

As soon as you’re old enough to know your name, you’re given an identity:
I am Tom.
I am Nimesh.
I am Katherine.
I am Aiko.

Soon it becomes:
I am Vietnamese.
I am French.
I am an Aussie.

The divisions continue: I can do this. I can’t do that. I have more than them. I am worth more than them.
But do you even own the body you’re in?

At best, we lease.
The soul, before birth, puts forward its spirit energy into this incarnation and takes out a lease option on a body, not to own, but to experience Earth in all its forms. The terms of the lease are pre-set: duration, direction, and the way it ends.
When the time comes, the body returns to the earth. No security deposit. No refund. No arguments over wear and tear.

And that’s the beauty of it. There is no ownership, only experience. The body is your temporary anchor, and the lack of ownership is not a loss, but a liberation. It frees you to expand your consciousness, to meet the Soul, to embrace the Earth, not as something separate or possessed, but as something shared in oneness with all that is.

Look! We’re walking around in a body.
How cool is that?
Very cool.
